Ballet Pointe Shoes - Big Dream To Go on Pointe

Ballet Pointe Shoes - Big Dream To Go on Pointe

Hi Odette,
I've being visiting your website a while and I wanted to write to you but I just wasn't sure about what to say...anyway. I started ballet class one month ago and I just feel so "connected" to it. I love it! The problem is that I am fourteen. I don't want to be a professional I just want to be really good at it.
I know that I have to train everyday a little bit but that is my problem. Each time I tell myself "Ok time to go train for ballet" but then it never happens. What can I do? I know I need determination but how can I pass from doing nothing to training an hour everyday plus the two classes that I already have?
Also I want to become more flexible but when do I know that what I am doing in too dangerous and that I can hurt mysef?
Finally my BIG BIG dream is to go on point the question is how much time does it takes?
Thank you so much,
Vanille.

ballet pre-pointe
Remember, just like I did before I went en pointe, ballet students MUST take responsibility for their own strengthening prior to beginning pointe work.
Australian dancer, Lisa Howell has made a video which explains how pre-point strengthening works.
Don't leave it to your teacher!
You can watch this pre-pointe video
yourself here
(just wait for the page to load up then the video is on the top right of the page).

Hello Vanille,
Thank you for your message, I'm really pleased you decided to write to me. I enjoy hearing about your dancing journey and now I can be here to help you personally with your dreams.

You're very new to ballet, so I can see you're fresh and absolutely loving it! This is great and it's natural you suddenly feel all these aspirations and goals coming to your mind. First things first, is to take it step by step. Even though you feel so passionate and burning inside to do more, you have to take a breathe and decide on what you really can do next in order to pursue your dream.

You've definitely found the right place with all the resources to kick-start your journey in dance. Firstly, let me introduce my new eBook "7 Virtues of a Professional Dancer". I recently created this to help aspiring young dancers just like yourself. Even though you don't want to be a professional, I reccomend you reading the short sections like Virtue 1:Passion and Virtue 3: Physicality, which will give you an introduction and boost into success for ballet dancers.

You may also want to take a look at the video above, especially if you dream to dance on pointe. Australian dancer, Lisa Howell, has made a video which explains how pre-point strengthening works. I would recommend you listening to the advice given here, as Lisa Howell gives some superb tips for pre pointe. Even though you're not ready to start yet, it will give you a head start of knowledge and may get you thinking to what you need to achieve first before you can start pointe.

I think that's enough information from me for now! There is plenty more for you to read around my website, so take a look! Let me give you these key links to some pages on flexibility -
