Team Talk Odette! #161 - Improve Your Turnout
May 12, 2014
Hello

I'm really grateful many of you replied and gave me feedback on what areas you would advice on. Therefore, this week I'm going to focus on how you can increase your turnout.

Every dancer has a different range in how much you can turn out, so it's really important not to force it and work sensibly within your own ability to improve.

It's easy to plant your turn out from your feet, but it's crucial to remember the strength actually comes from your glutes (backs of the legs). This is the area you need to focus on to strengthen your turnout.

I recommend in your next ballet class to concentrate on maintaining your turnout from your glutes and legs, not only in each position but in between each movement too.

You can see a great Q & A on turnout here -

Best wishes,

Odette

P.S - The quote of the day is: "To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong."
