Team Talk Odette! #173 - My Day as a Ballerina
August 11, 2014
Hello

You'll soon find out that nearly every ballet dancer has a similar type of schedule and lifestyle once you enter the professional world. There are ballet companies around the world that train, rehearse and perform talented dancers from across the country.

You can see just a small handful of the ballet companies here -

For me, I take a ballet class 6 days a week during our rehearsal period. We start class at 10am in the morning and keep rehearsing all day (with a lunch break) until 6.30pm. It is an intense day of learning, practicing and perfecting so we are ready for the upcoming performances.

During the performances, we still keep rehearsing but the focus is on the performance so we will finish slightly earlier to prepare for the show. Every ballet company performs a different amount, but for me, it is 7 shows a week... which can last for up to 6 weeks!

You need a lot of stamina, both in your body and mind, to pursue dance as a profession. It won't last forever, but for the time it lasts you have to enjoy where it takes you.

Best wishes,

Odette

P.S - The quote of the day is: "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."
