Ballet Pointe Shoes - First Time on Pointe

Hi,
My daughter has now been told she can go on pointe.
She will be 11 years old in July.

For her first pointe class, should she put band aids / tape on her toes? If so does she place the tape on all the toes, or do we wait to see were to put them after she gets the blisters?

Thank you

Hello,

Thank you for your query, it is lovely to hear from you.

That is great news your daughter is starting pointe work, she is at an ideal age too which is very encouraging.

You always want to avoid blisters so I would advise, to be on the safe side, to tape all of toes for her first pointe class. As she begins to do more pointe work, she will learn her particular pressure points and probably only need to tape a few areas on her toes.

Extra padding such as lambs wool or ouch pouches can also be advised to protect the toes and prevent pain.

All the best,

Odette
