Career Development Plan - Is there a Chance to Become Professional Ballet Dancer?

Hello, well my name is Andry. I was wondering if it is possible for me to become a professional ballet dancer when if im 13? I just turned 13 about 3months ago. These past months i've gotten the idea of becoming a dancer. Im not really good at sports, even though i enjoy it, and i want to fit into something. I've done research and most say that im never too old, but i want to make a career out of it. Do you think if i work extra hard, I can be a professional ballet dancer. My main goal is to be a modern dancer, but i looked up some stuff and it told me that ballet is the foundation of MOST dances. And modern dancing is one. If its too late to be a ballet dancer, do you think if i study/try ballet, i can be a modern dancer after. Or any options that you can give me for me being a Professional dancer. Like what type of dances can you name that i might have a chance making a career out of it if im 13.
Please? And thank you !(:

Hello Andry,
Thank you for contacting me it's great to hear from you. You are certainly not too old to have a professional ballet career, as there are ballet dancer's now such as Misty Copeland, Melissa Hamilton and Darcey Bussell who started at a slightly later age themselves. However, it highly depends on the quality of your training for the next years to give you any chance of becoming a dancer.

Even if you feel determined enough to become a dancer on your own, you still need a lot of support from others like your family and ballet teacher. Ballet is a superb foundation for other dance styles like jazz, modern and contemporary. It gives you a great discipline too as well as musicality and performance.

Becoming a dancer is a very serious decision to make, where you need the support of your family to help too. It isn't something that will happen easily and a professional ballet career is extremely hard work, more than you would imagine.

Keep looking through my website, particularly the Career Development Plan section which will give you more of an insight to a ballet dancer's career.

Best wishes,

Odette
