Career Development Plan - Preparation for a Ballet Profession

hi Odette, my name is Lillie and I'm a young dancer from New Jersey. My main goal for the future is to be a professional dancer. I'm a freshman in high school and I go to a local dance studio where I take jazz, tap, lyrical ballet, and Pointe once a week. I feel like I am not getting enough preparation for a professional career. this may seem like a very blunt or general question, but do you have any advice for me? I dream of going to Juilliard after high school, please reply !

Hello Lillie,
Thank you for your message, it is great to hear from you. My whole website is all the advice I could give you and more. I constantly try to update it to give you the most key advice for ballet, but also you can read other young dancer's stories who I have replied to and gather all the advice.

You will find there are many questions that are in your thoughts too, so go to my career development plan section and scroll to the bottom to hear everyone's personal stories when striving for a ballet career.

If you feel like you are not getting preparation for a ballet career, then you have found the solution to your own situation. Now, you need to ask yourself where else could I train? Can I audition to vocational ballet schools? Could I do a summer intensive to gather more experience and be seen by ballet schools?

I would say, you must always keep believing yourself and be confident in your ability. It doesn't matter about anyone else, but focus on your own journey.

If you have all passion and determination to become a professional dancer, then you must put it into practice. Be at a school that recognises your potential and who can realistically give you a chance to achieve that goal.

Keep working hard and do your best each day, whilst continuing towards your dream.

Best wishes,
Odette
