Audition Tips - Dance Auditions

Hi!
I'm 16, and my dream was always to be a dancer I really can't see me doing something else I thought about being a lawyer or something like that but just no. I need dance.
I've recently been 4/5 months stopped because of an injury, I deslocated my hip.

I started practicing again 3 weeks ago and I'm auditioning by DVD for London Theatre School and Northern Ballet School, I really hope I can make it.
Any suggest?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me, it’s great to hear from you. To become a dancer and have a career in dance is a choice you have to take very seriously. It is something which takes years of training and more dedication than you think. Even though you have the urge to dance and want to do it for the rest of your life, it is very hard to pursue as a career.

Having said that, it is encouraging to hear you are applying for schools and looking into future possibilities. Yet don’t forget the huge competition you are up against, so don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t always get everything you want in terms of ballet schools. It doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t good enough or won’t make it, but you do need to prepare yourself and give plenty of options.

I would suggest looking at even more schools to audition to and give yourself a range of places to apply. You can talk to your ballet teacher and get some ideas of which places could be suited for you. Also, make sure you submit the best possible DVD of yourself dancing, as well as the practical presentation for the actual DVD. You want to make sure the actual disc is clearly labeled with your full name, so it doesn’t get lost with the other applicants.

Keep in touch and let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,
Odette
