Career Development plan - Feel close to Failure

Dear Odette,

How to keep up with my class?? My ballet teacher put me in a class that are 3 to 7 years older than me. My teacher calls me a prodigy but I think I am closer to a failure. Please answer me quickly!

Hello Susie,

Thank you for contacting me!

I would need more specific information to give you my absolute best advice, such as, how are old are you? Perhaps you are at an advanced level for your age, which is why your teacher puts you with the older girls.

Each one of my Seven Secrets would be a huge help to you. Read them, treasure them and remember them! Go to my 'Seven Secrets of Ballet' page to find these valuable gems!

One of my seven secrets is to never hold back. Your teacher is giving you a great opportunity to push yourself and bring out your talent, so be eager and keep striving for more!

Your ballet teacher calls you a prodigy, that is proof that you should believe in yourself! Why do you feel a failure? Is it because you struggle with the steps? No dancer is perfect and ballet takes time to improve, but with practice and perseverance you will learn to keep up with your class.

Never feel like a failure, work out why you feel like this and we can solve this problem.

Don't compare yourself to the other girls in your class. Be your own competition and focus on yourself.

Mostly, you have to know this is what you want. Do you want to be pushed? Do you want to step out of your comfort zone? If you like the idea of progressing your talents and you want to progress within your own ballet ability, then do not fear yourself but flourish within these opportunities.

Confidence and self-motivation is the key.

Keep in touch,

Odette
