Career Development Plan - How To Feel Better About Myself?

hello,
Im 13 and have been taking ballet for close to 2 years. My teacher put me in a class with 16-18 year old and a lot of times i feel inferior and not even half as good. The class below (for my age group) is too simple my teacher is constantly reminding me how far i've come especially since i got my pointe shoes 5 months ago. We have a show coming up and my teacher gave me a solo, on pointe. How do I prepare myself for this, emotionally and physically?
Thank you ever so much!

Hello Shanna,

Thank you for contacting me, it is a pleasure to hear from you.

Firstly, the Seven Secrets, on the 'Seven Secrets of Ballet' page, will be perfect for you. Listen to these top secrets and it will make a positively big difference to your whole approach to ballet. These secrets will also prepare you emotionally which will encourage you physically for your solo.

On an emotional point of view, it is crucial to stay positive. You have to remain confident within your own ability and believe in yourself. Again, the Seven Secrets will give you the answers on how to remain positive.

Physically, you will have to build up your stamina for the solo which will enable you to progress further technically. To build my stamina, I used to practice the solo twice in a row because it is in that second run, when you are tired, that your stamina will improve.

Do not worry if you find the solo challenging at first, it will begin to feel more natural as you practice more. Listen to your teacher's corrections and follow her guidance.

Mentally visualize yourself performing the solo - see yourself enjoying the limelight and feel the love of performing.

Do not forget to just dance!! - Be the star of the show! Go for it!

Believe in yourself.

All the best,

Odette
