Career Development Plan - Too Late For Ballet and Pointe?

Hi Odette!

I used to dance when I was very young however I can't remember it too well, I stopped and I regret it a lot. last year I re-started ballet but the school was too casual and it wasn't a challenge, so I quit. My parents have finally agreed to let me join a local dance school for modern dance and classical ballet- is it too late for ballet? and will I ever be able to consider pointe?

Australian dancer, Lisa Howell has made a video which explains how pre-point strengthening works.

Don't leave it to your teacher!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting me, it is a pleasure to hear from you.

As long as you have the drive and commitment, it is never too late to join ballet as a hobby. Dance classes will definitely benefit your co-ordination, posture, flexibility and your general health and well-being. It's such a beautiful art form and I encourage you to be a part of the beauty too.

Dancer's always need the support of their family to pursue their ballet dreams. It is great your parent's have agreed to let you join a local dance school. You should grasp this opportunity and make the most of what the dance school has to offer.

I believe pointe will be possible for you once you commit to regular ballet classes and build strength in your muscles. For extra guidance to get you prepared for pointe, the video above is very useful.
