Hello Anna,

Thank you for your queries, it's lovely to hear from you. You sound like a promising young dancer.

A vocational school provides education where students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular job.

So, for a dancer's case, a vocational ballet school offers full-time training in order to become a professional dancer. These schools combine your academic studies with ballet training.

It is most common for the students to live within the school as they almost always have residential sites. Vocational ballet schools are located around the world and offer training from the early age of 11 right up until they are 18.

It takes a lot of committed training in order to become a professional which is why most dancers go to train at vocational dance schools from their early years. These schools will give you the intense training and valuable opportunities to pursue a ballet career.

If you really want to make ballet your life, then a vocational school could be the ideal solution.

Canton Ballet and Columbus City Ballet School are ballet schools in Ohio that offer pre-professional training.

It may not always be the case that there is a vocational ballet school in your area. I have known many dancers who have had to travel across the world to study at an elite school. Some of the most famous classical ballet schools include the School of American Ballet (New York) and The Royal Ballet School (England).

Don't forget, along with the physical ability, it's absolutely crucial to be mentally prepared for a professional ballet career. It highly depends on your self-motivation to how you succeed in becoming a professional ballet dancer. The Seven Secrets, on the 'Seven Secrets of Ballet' page, will give you the key answers of how to thrive in the ballet world.

All the best,

Odette
